Château Mouton Rothschild, 1er GCC

Bordeaux > Pauillac - 80.00% Cabernet Sauvignon; 10.00% Cabernet Franc; 8.00% Merlot; 2.00% Petit Verdot

Château Mouton Rothschild, a Premier Cru Classé from the Bordeaux region and one of the world’s greatest wines, is owned by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, daughter of the legendary Baron Philippe. The estate includes 84 hectares of vines at Pauillac planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (77%), Merlot (12%), Cabernet Franc (9%) and Petit Verdot (2%). It benefits from exceptionally good natural conditions, both in the quality of the soil and in the situation of its vines and their exposure to the sun. From the grape to the bottle, Château Mouton Rothschild receives meticulous attention to detail, combining a respect for tradition with the latest techniques. Harvesting is carried out by hand, and the wine is matured in new oak barrels. In 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, a member of the English branch of the family, bought Château Brane-Mouton and renamed it Château Mouton Rothschild. In 1922, his great-grandson Baron Philippe de Rothschild (1902-1988), decided to take the future of the estate into his own hands. His 65 years at Mouton bear witness to the strength of his personality, his spirit of enterprise and his sense of innovation. In 1924, he was the first to introduce château bottling. In 1926, he built the famous Grand Chai, the majestic 100-metre first year cellar, which has become a major attraction for visitors to Mouton. 1945, Vicory year, marked the start of a fascinating collection of works of art, created every year for the Mouton label by famous painters. 1962 saw the inauguration of the Museum of Wine in Art next to the Grand Chai, a collection of precious objects devoted to wine and the vine from three millennia, which attracts thousands of visitors every year. In 1973, after 25 year battle, Baron Philippe obtained a revision of the 1855 classification and Mouton was officially recognized as a First Growth. In 1988, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild succeeded her father Baron Philippe. In 1991, she decided to create Aile d’argent, a great white wine produced from 4 hectares of the Mouton vineyard planted with Sauvignon Blanc (57%), Semillon (42%) and Muscadelle (1%). In 1994, Mouton for the first time produced a second wine, Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild. Today, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild has become the guarantor of the quality of an illustrious wine whose motto proudly proclaims : “First, I am. Second, I used to be. Mouton, I do not change”.
